Fred Upton: the man who feeds the seagulls, 21st January. Fred was a local fisherman. He told me that 30 years ago there were 14 boats fishing off the shores of Deal. When they brought home their catch they would gut the fish and feed the scraps to the seagulls. These days fish stocks are lower, there are hardly any boats out and the seagulls go hungry. Every afternoon Fred feeds them.
